Born: Northern Dutchess Hospital,
Rhinebeck...and still lives in Northern Dutchess. I
like a commute that includes getting stuck behind
hay-wagons.
|
Married: Yes,
amazingly.
|
Kids: Two of 'em.
Here's a couple pictures.
|
| That's
the new guy, Daniel. He's two years old now.
Mothers, lock up your daughters. This one's a hound. |
 |
| And here's Maria, whom you might
remember. She's four now, and deciding whether to
attend MIT or Harvard, or skip college for now and
finish writing that book on astrophysics. |

Why radio? |
One day during the
start of a semester at SUNY New Paltz, I was looking
for a couple of humanities courses to sleep
through fill out my
schedule and of course based my choice on
how many cute girls would be in the class
continuing a well-rounded academic career. I
discreetly drooled looked over one hottie's
student's shoulder and saw that she was
calling campus police to report a stalker signing up
for Intro to Art History and Journalism 1 - and I
took to news like Jayson Blair a duck to water. As for the radio
end of it, one night in New Paltz I was
partying like it was 1999 enjoying an
evening's libation when a drinking
buddy of mine staggered strolled over and
urped on my shoes asked me to come up
and help fish his keys out of the toilet with his overnight shift at the college
radio station. Fast-forward a
couple years, and my news skills and
disturbing obsession with interest in radio
and unemployability in any other field that
doesn't involve a name-tag and a blue smock combined to put me on CZX-FM
- which is what Mix was
called back then, when we all wore white lab coats
in the studio and consulted Marconi himself on
programming issues. That was in February of the last
ice age 1989, and I've been
with them for most of the past seventeen-plus years. You can also hear me on
the dark side our sister station,
WPDH,
as well as filling in on our other sister stations,
WRRV and
94.3/97.3 The Wolf.
I've always preferred
radio news to other forms of journalism because of
its immediacy, and also because I don't have to wear
makeup or shave or watch my weight
like I would if I was on TV. Not that there's
anything wrong with that. I've also finally learned
how to pronounce all the local place names, and it's
fun to watch the newbies come on board and try to
say Coxsackie.
And I like waking up at
2:30 in the morning. Except when it snows. Or rains.
Or when the kids have been up all night throwing
tantrums. Or when I stayed up late watching the game
the night before. Or if the bed's nice and comfy.
Other than that, it's great.

What do I do when I'm
not at the station? |
Well,
those two little ones take up a lot of time, but
Mrs. J and I like to get them outdoors, so the four
of us go hiking at the Mohonk Preserve (outside of
Gardiner) or Poet's
Walk (in Red Hook), or up Overlook Mountain
(Woodstock) whenever we can.
I'm a big fan of road
trips, too - favorite destinations include
Newfoundland, the White Mountains of New Hampshire,
Philadelphia, Boston and Chicago. And any place
where there's a baseball game. (Note to George
Steinbrenner and Fred Wilpon: those sweet new
stadiums better have baby-changing tables in ALL the restrooms.)
One day I'll get back on
the golf course. I used to have a 6 handicap a long
long LONG time ago.
