THIS WEEK THIS SUMMER:
Are your children operating
a lemonade stand this summer? Better stock up on supplies, because Bob
Miller and Brian Jones will plug your kids' lemonade stand on the air, as
well as here on the Morning Mix page. Just email the particulars (where,
when, cost per cup, anything else that's special) to
morningmix@mix97fm.com.
After that, make sure your kids are wearing plenty of sunscreen, because
with any luck they'll be getting a lot more traffic.
Mon 7.31
Mr. Jones is back, but
Miller's still on vacation - he'll be back on Monday the 7th of August.
It's our good friend Frankenberry filling in this week!
From our "Only in America"
department - a
vacuum cleaner for the nose, apparently for those boogerphobic
parents out there.
Fri-Sat-Sun 7.21-22-23
Mr. Jones is on vacation
next week, and will be back on Monday the 31st.

Recipe: "Hook-Him Apple Pie"
According to Miller (so get out your
fist-sized grain of salt), this will help hoping-to-be-married
women get their man to pop the question. He says this'll work as
well as his Christmas Tree Recipe does for killing your
holiday season keeping your tree green. Here goes...
8 cups cored, peeled, sliced apples
1/2 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
3 tablespoons corn starch
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon apple pie spice
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, melted
2 tablespoons lemon juice
Preheat oven to 400F. Butter a
three-quart baking dish. Place apples in large bowl. Combine
sugars, corn starch, salt and spices in a small bowl and pour
over apples, tossing to coat. Combine melted butter and lemon
juice, add to apple mixture and spoon into baking dish. Cover
with aluminum foil and cut large vents in foil. Bake 35 minutes,
remove foil and stir apples. Cool to room temperature. While
it's cooling, get busy on the crust:
2 2/3 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup butter-flavored shortening
8-10 tablespoons refrigerated half-and-half
1 egg, beaten with 2 tablespoons of water
Combine flour and salt. Cut in
shortening until mixture resembles small peas. Add half and half
a spoonful at a time, tossing with a fork until the dough
clings. Divide dough in half and roll into two 12-inch circles.
Ease one circle into a deep-dish pie plate and add cooked apple
mixture. Place second crust over the filling, trim the edges,
turn under and crimp. Cut vents in top crust. Brush egg and
water glaze over center of pie. Cover edges with aluminum foil
and dust lightly with sugar. Bake 20 minutes. Remove foil and
bake until crust is golden, another 20 to 30 minutes. Let cool
before slicing. Serve to recalcitrant man. Await proposal.
Wow, Miller really did do an apple
pie recipe that didn't have kerosene or tripe in it. It might
just work...but Mr. Jones says try a blueberry pie because local
apples aren't in season yet.

Just a goofy link: Don't like driving on Route
9?
It could be worse...
Thu 7.20
So there's Lulu (formerly Sulu),
one of the five kittens Mrs. Jones rescued. Two of the five
already have homes, so there's three to go. While we're waiting
to get Lulu adopted, we figured we'd enter her into the fray at
www.kittenwar.com, where
you vote on which of two kittens is cuter. If you see Lulu come
up, better vote for her!
We think we'll find homes for the kittens, either independently
or through the SPCA, but you can always inquire at
morningmix@mix97fm.com
and we'll see what Mrs. J thinks of you. |

Wed 7.19
Scientists may have
discovered why diaper-changing parents everywhere say "Yay, poopy!"
Read on...
Know what'll keep the little
ones occupied?
Poker chips. Really.
Mon 7.17
Videos from the 80's -
1500 of 'em.
Fri-Sat-Sun 7.14-15-16
11-year-old Bianca Ryan
sings.
And
how.
The best careers, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Morning radio show host doesn't make the list (wipes away tear).
And the guys working the
grill said "Finally!" It's a
transparent propane cylinder. No more running out of gas in
mid-steak. Or no more excuses for running out of gas in mid-steak,
anyway.
If you're big on pictures of
unusual deep-sea creatures,
here's a gold-mine.
And for all the Mix 97.7
listeners interested in seeing how Mr. Jones' two little ones are doing,
we hope to have pics posted soon.
Thu 7.13
Here, in all her
shoulder-padded magnificence, is Star Jones from back in 1991, when
she was an assistant district attorney in Brooklyn.
Wed 7.12
Here's a good one for
anybody who's got little kids and lots of old T-shirts...there's a way
to
make the T-shirts into toddler pants without all that much sewing
expertise. Not that we would let Miller loose with scissors and needles
- we're just saying.
Tue 7.11
Now it can be made official: Brian Jones is back with the Morning
Mix, in his old role as news anchor and Miller-irritant. Yay.
As referenced this morning
on the Morning Mix news, here's the story of
Kyle Macdonald and the paper clip he parlayed into a house.
To suggest where Miller should take his wife for her birthday dinner,
email Bob at
morningmix@mix97fm.com.
